Sr HR Business Partner


Location: San Jose, California, United States

Basic Job Function: To formulate HR objectives, practices, and policies to meet short and long-range organizational needs and opportunities, to guide and lead the change process, and to evaluate HR's contributions to organizational effectiveness.


  • Act as a strategic and consultative business partner to client organizations in order to ensure effective alignment of HR support with strategic organizational objectives

  • Assists client in improving organizational effectiveness by analyzing departmental structures and evaluating options, studying resources and ensuring optimal utilization, assessing employee climate, morale and effectiveness and developing action plans to improve these areas

  • Monitors employee relations within assigned client organization for developing or actual trends and assists client management with addressing issues and resolving conflicts

  • Uses analysis and experience to link problems and symptoms to identify underlying root cause

  • Uses broad knowledge, logical thought progression, methods and theories to address and resolve complex issues

  • Plans and directs implementation of policies and procedures to ensure consistent delivery of compensation programs, training and development programs, employment programs, and employee services programs

  • Investigates complaints by coaching and counseling managers on employee relations issues and delivering effective and practical learnings and solutions; Investigates, resolves and responds with empathy to all employee complaints filed

  • Ensure that all policies, procedures and programs are designed and administered so as to ensure that the company properly complies with all legal and ethical standards

  • Communicates and ensures understanding by associates of laws, regulations and organizational practices and policies

  • Interprets, recommends and effectively communicates HR practices, policies, procedures and initiatives, makes practice change recommendations

  • Leads by taking calculated risks, championing innovative ideas to gain support and manage through change

  • Anticipates risks, outcomes and consequences and develops plans to manage/mitigate them

  • Supports quality sourcing and talent selection by understanding position requirements, managing recruitment assignments, and reducing the cycle time to fill positions

  • Understands and communicates company benefit and reward programs

  • Has confidence and good platform skills to successfully roll out and facilitate any educational or developmental programs and initiatives

  • Provides ongoing support collaborating with Compensation, Recruitment, Training and Education functions

  • Has a clear understanding and knowledge of the business operations, financial, statistical and organizational reports

  • Ensures compliance with Federal, State and local requirements (EEOC, OSHA, VISA/ IMMIGRATION, etc.)

  • Ensures timely and high quality HR services, placing internal client first

  • Formulates and edits disciplinary notices and violation correspondence

  • Provides individualized, direct, actionable and corrective feedback

  • Holds development discussions and clearly assigns responsibility for tasks and decisions

  • Is able to effectively articulate a point of view and uses factual information to persuade

  • Figures out the process necessary to accomplish quality results

  • Additional responsibilities, tasks or projects as assigned by the Management

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree and or equivalent experience with 5-7 years progressive HR experience with proven results

  • PHR/SPHR (Professional in Human Resources/Sr. Professional in Human Resources) Certification Preferred

  • Leadership: Proven ability to challenge and motivate management teams in an atmosphere of mutual respect and by fostering innovation. Is intellectually acute, capable and agile

  • Communication: Demonstration of both verbal and written communication skills to both management with the ability to express and logically articulate point of view

  • Business analysis: Ability to forecast and analyze business trends and complete business budgeting procedures.

  • Planning: Studying the future and arranging the means for dealing with it, which encompasses forecasting, setting goals, and determining actions

  • Organization: Designing structure to assist in goal accomplishment that effectively relates human and non-human resources to the HR processes for the corporation

  • Coordination: Uniting all human capital activities that take place within the division so that elements are given proper resources and the means to accomplish goals

  • Direction: Engaging in those activities that ensure effective operation, including leadership and motivation of the associate action toward goals

  • Managing: Ensuring that everything is carried out according to the strategic plan and talent resources are fully utilized

  • Execution: Using fewer resources in terms of time, materials, money and people to make strategy actionable

  • Must be a highly organized individual, able to work independently and capable of working in a rapid paced/rapid turnaround environment

  • Uses and is familiar with different interviewing and investigative techniques

Preferred experience to include:

  • Knowledge of California Employment laws

  • Acquisition integration experience

  • Some international experience/ support
