The business has been hugely successful in recent years, increasing double digit via his US, Asian and European sales operations. In order to further accelerate MLex’s current growth trajectory, decision has been made to invest heavily during 2019. Both commercial as well as editorial functions will receive considerable additional headcount. This will see MLex move into a number of new areas of business.

Overview of Role:

  • In conjunction with senior sales leadership, develop the immediate and long-term growth strategy for the investment segments.

  • To drive business growth through deep customer, competitor and market insight to ensure that we have strong value propositions across MLex’s current verticals as well as develop propositions in new areas of business based on sound business principles.

  • Work with Sales, Marketing, Product, Pricing and Content to optimise current trading for the segment.

Key Result Areas:

  • As the Ambassador/Evangelist for the Segments, the Market Development Director will be widely recognised as the ‘Voice and Champion’ of MLex for that segment by key customers, senior stakeholders and influencers, demonstrated through engagements in external events, thought leadership, deep knowledge of market data, industry & competitive complexities and expansive/effective external network

  • Responsible for creating impactful relationships with key customers and associations, senior stakeholders and influencers within the Segments to help accelerate customer knowledge and awareness of segment-specific product offerings and adoption of our product portfolio during customer engagements

  • Set out and drive overall Segment Plan with Sales Leaders the Product Development Director and Marketers to deliver revenue targets.

  • Assembling and prioritising the relevant product portfolio (from what already exists) for the segment including packaging and pricing.

  • Planning what to launch, when and to whom and inputting on the “how” with Sales and Marking.

  • Diagnosing barriers to revenue growth and recommending changes, and leading the implementation of some of the changes, where appropriate

  • Identifying and validating new opportunities within segment and working with the Virtual Team to test/challenge the size of opportunity and GTM plan (where appropriate)

  • Identifying key partnerships for distribution channels and/or new product creation

  • Define, track and monitor segment success metrics which measure how we know we are winning in the Segment (e.g financial, usage, target ‘must win’ customers, proposition/portfolio awareness)

  • Identify longer-term investment and product development opportunities / priorities for the portfolio (new products, product extensions, acquisitions, partnerships) and works in partnership with the Virtual Team to validate customer insight and build GTM plans in support of the new opportunities

  • Responsible for value proposition development for their segment which is built in collaboration with the Virtual Team

  • Provides Marketing and Sales with support in building the marketing and sales plan (in-year delivery plan) for their segment

Key skills and experience required:

  • Proven experience working within product or market strategy, business development, market development and/or commercial leadership.

  • Previous exposure to the asset management community a very strong plus.

  • Structured, rigorous strategic thinking, using relevant data gathering, customer and market insight and strong analysis to determine strategic direction

  • Successful track record of evangelizing, relationship building and cultivating networks at senior level within key customers and associations, industry leaders and influencers

  • Gravitas, executive maturity and credibility to represent MLex at senior level with customers, influencers, associations and industry bodies and other stakeholders

  • Proven expertise in structuring, enhancement and enrichment of new and existing value propositions to drive increased product penetration

  • Background in successfully collaborating, motivating, influencing and coordinating other stakeholders (who are not in your teams) to deliver results for you

  • Deep Customer Insight and Customer focus in determining, validating and interpreting ‘Innovations’ to future product development

  • Commercial acumen and financial literacy to co-lead segment budget process, business cases and ongoing performance reviews with the CCO, CFO and Sales Directors
