Design and Technology Consultant


Location: Dayton, Ohio, United States

This position exists to consult, design and develop learning experiences. TheDesign and Technology Consultantactively participates in all aspects of design and development for online and instructor-led training. They work closely with teams like Sales, Performance Consultants, Marketing and Product Management to have a deep understanding of product functionality and customer product messaging strategies. A Design and Technology Consultant will have experience and expertise in all or many of the following: Instructional design, adult learning theories, graphic design, multimedia design, technical development of learning objects utilizing industry standard authoring tools and testing methods. The key to this role will be to promote your unique strengths from the skills listed below, identify how these strengths can add value to a project team and then quickly turn around effective learning experiences by leveraging your strengths where needed.


  1. Shares scoping and gap analysis responsibility with Performance Consultants or appropriate project partner.

  2. Simplifies deliverables to meet project requirements quickly, efficiently and with the most appropriate time-on-development for priority and payoff of project.

  3. Assesses and consults on instructional design and technical implementation needs and efficacies.

  4. Translate learning concepts and/or written content into tangible instruction through the use of storyboards or other templates.

  5. Designs presentation of information utilizing one or a blend of the following: audio/video objects, animation, product demos, webinars, photo treatment, web pages, print and/or face-to-face interactions.

  6. Designs engaging interactions and feedback hierarchies.

  7. Designs collaboration frameworks via social and collaborative media.

  8. Identifies and utilizes appropriate development processes and authoring tools per project requirements.

  9. Packages all the elements into a functioning Learning Activity, ensures SCORM compliance and uploads to and tests functionality with the Learning Management System.

  10. Collaborates with Performance Consultants or appropriate project partner on the logistics of major tasks, duration, schedules, and resources required.

  11. Identify project risks and mitigation plans; manage issue resolution.

  12. Identify evaluation needs that align with training strategies.

  13. Assess and enhance current evaluation strategy.

  14. Develop measurable program performance goals.

  15. Design and develop data collection tools.

  16. Conduct formative evaluation studies (i.e., monitor progress of a training initiative from design through development through deployment) in order to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the instructional design effort.

  17. Conduct summative evaluation studies to assess the effectiveness of a strategic training initiative.

  18. Partner with peers within the team and resources within the organization to share best ideas and program content, functionality and design to effectively build our programs and create a world class training organization.


  1. Bachelors degree.

  2. 3-5 years experience in learning design and development in both online and instructor-led formats.

  3. Knowledge of and experience with training development, adult eLearning principles and learning program development with solid knowledge around effective instructional design practices.

  4. Knowledge and experience in the utilization of social and collaborative media for achieving greater impact from informal training and learning experiences.

  5. Knowledge of instructional design principles and practices including needs and task analysis, design, development, usability testing, and implementation.

  6. Ability to conduct and construct needs analysis using various approaches such as interviews, quantitative methods/surveys, etc., including needs and task analysis, design, development, implementation and measurement.

  7. Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following industry standard eLearning development tools is required: Adobe Captivate, Articulate 360 and Storyline.

  8. Video production and graphic design skills and competencies with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects).

  9. Experience with Office 365, SharePoint online and the SumTotal LMS is a plus.

  10. Solid track record in managing complex projects involving multiple geographies, multiple disciplines that have a direct impact on the organization.

  11. Strong project planning and organizational methods are essential as well as effective time management skills and results orientation.

  12. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  13. Excellent decision making, trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills.

  14. Proven ability to manage and meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision.

  15. Significant knowledge of the online information, marketing or legal industry preferred.

  16. Ability to travel up to 25% on an annual basis.
